Michael Wiles is a member of the Actor’s Equity Association (AEA), a labor union representing over 50,000 actors and stage managers in the United States. The AEA is a member of the AFL-CIO and has been affiliated with the international association of actors’ unions FIA. Wiles has been a member of the AEA for 15 years, working as an actor, musical director, and casting director. Wiles has worked in northern California’s most respected theaters and is well-regarded for his singing and acting abilities. Wiles earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Acting from the Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle in 1997. He moved to San Francisco in 1999 and began taking acting jobs at the California Shakespeare Theater, the Capital Stage Company, and others. Wiles quickly became known for his masterful Shakespeare performances and he soon moved on to musical performance. He has worked as a musical director for several theater companies in northern California.
Michael Wiles joined the AEA soon after he started working full-time as an actor in San Francisco because he wanted to benefit from the security of an organization that negotiates contracts with theater companies and represents the overall interests of actors, musical directors, stage managers, and others in the performance industry. The AEA has a rich history of representing its members’ interests. Founded in 1913, has been committed to preserving the art of live theater in the United States. The organization is perhaps most famous for organizing one of the first actors’ strikes in Los Angeles in 1919, when about 1500 AEA members refused to work.
Michael Wiles continues to contribute to live theater performances in northern California. He has also worked as a vocal coach in recent years, helping develop promising musical talent for a new generation of skilled actors and performers.
