Michael Wiles is an actor, casting director, and musical director living and working in Sacramento, California. He started his career after graduating from the Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle in 1997. He moved to San Francisco in 1999 and quickly developed a reputation for excellent performances in musicals and in Shakespearian plays. Wiles soon started acting full-time and joined the Actors’ Equity Association (AEA) in 2000. He started to diversify his skillset in many ways as he gained experience on stage and in rehearsals. He started participating more in the creation and direction of plays and musicals and he earned a position as the musical and casting director for a local theater company.
Musical directors need experience like Michael Wiles did because they have to develop a wide range of skills and abilities. The first skill that musical directors and casting directors need is communication skills. They have to be able to communicate with all members of a performance. Putting on a play or musical is a true team effort and one cannot take a leadership position in a production without the experience and communication skills to back up his or her authority as a leader. Actors need to develop experience on both sides of performances to become a musical or casting director. They have to put in their time performing in real productions and develop experience behind the scenes before they can direct anything.
Michael Wiles put his career as an actor, musical director, and casting director over years of developing the skills and experience in the field of study and work he has always loved. He wanted to study Acting in college because it has always been a dream of his to act on stage and onscreen. Today, Wiles performs for live audiences and takes small parts on television and in commercials.
